An Enduring Power of Attorney gives the legal authority to another person to make decisions on your behalf.
In the event that you require assistance as a result of an accident or poor health this allows someone to help you with your affairs. In the unfortunate event that you loose capacity this power will continue to ensure that your financial affairs are taken care of.
Unlike a Power of Attorney, an Enduring Guardianship only operates in the event that you loose capacity. This enables someone to make the decision on where you live, what medical treatment you receive and advise your medical team what your end of life wishes are.
Both of the above documents can only be created when you have capacity. These documents are not just for the elderly, don’t leave it until it’s too late.
